„Wide as the whole world, majestic, tall and sparkling
in dazzling white, such is the peak of Mount Kilimanjaro”.
Hemingway
Kilimanjaro's name comes from Swahili and translates as „the shining mountain”, and the peak Uhuru means „freedom”. Kilimanjaro was first mentioned by the ancient Greek geographer Ptolemy, but Africa's highest mountain remained unknown to the rest of the world until 1848, when the German missionary Johann Rebmann saw the mountain's snow-capped peak and told the stories he had learned about it in his native country - how a group of men from a local tribe had been sent to the top of the mountain to fetch some of the silver that glittered there. They returned, but brought the tribe's chief only water - this was what was left of the „silver” they took from the top of the mysterious mountain. Rebman's stories awakened the interest of Europeans in the unknown land, and in the following years several expeditions visited this part of Africa.
Today Kilimanjaro attracts thousands of tourists every year and if you too have decided to conquer the „shining mountain”, we will organize your trip to the highest point of Africa along the Marangu route.

This is the transition to the mountain wilderness with views of the Maundy and Kibo craters. After a six-hour trek one arrives at Horombo Camp (3,720m), which has running water. Up to 120 climbers can spend the night here, spread across a number of huts and tents. If you wish, you can also make an extra night here for acclimatization. Dinner and overnight.
After breakfast, the climb continues through alpine-type high alpine terrain. Crossing the saddle between Kibo and Mawenzi, reaching the last to the summit area with fresh spring water and continuing to Kibo, located at 4 703 m.
The climb from Horombo to Kibo shelter takes about 6 hours (~14 km). Rest and dinner. At this altitude there are no drains for running water, but you will be able to purchase mineral water on site. Prepare your luggage for the big climb and retire for rest no later than 7pm. That evening around midnight, the climb of Uhuru Peak will begin and you will be facing 1195 meters of vertical drop (6 km) on the ascent and another 2175 meters of vertical drop (21 km) on the descent. Good luck and good luck !!!
The first hour after 23:30 starts with tea, biscuits and begins the climb up the steep scree slopes to the Gilman's Point area, located on the very edge of the crater at 5681m. Prepare yourself for a long hike - around 14 hours of hiking and climbing await you today.
