„Wide as the whole world, majestic, tall and sparkling
in dazzling white, such is the peak of Mount Kilimanjaro”.
                                                                                                   Hemingway

Kilimanjaro's name comes from Swahili and translates as „the shining mountain”, and the peak Uhuru means „freedom”. Kilimanjaro was first mentioned by the ancient Greek geographer Ptolemy, but Africa's highest mountain remained unknown to the rest of the world until 1848, when the German missionary Johann Rebmann saw the mountain's snow-capped peak and told the stories he had learned about it in his native country - how a group of men from a local tribe had been sent to the top of the mountain to fetch some of the silver that glittered there. They returned, but brought the tribe's chief only water - this was what was left of the „silver” they took from the top of the mysterious mountain. Rebman's stories awakened the interest of Europeans in the unknown land, and in the following years several expeditions visited this part of Africa.

Today Kilimanjaro attracts thousands of tourists every year and if you too have decided to conquer the „shining mountain”, we will organize your trip to the highest point of Africa along the Marangu route.
